If you are in the final year of BCA or MCA at a college affiliated to Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University (SRTMUN), the project is the one subject where your own choices decide most of the result. This guide explains what the SRTMUN syllabus says about the BCA project, what we could and could not confirm for MCA, and how students in Nanded, Latur, Parbhani and Hingoli can plan the project without last-minute panic.
Everything below comes from syllabus documents published on the SRTMUN website. Syllabi change, and NEP batches follow a new structure, so treat this as a starting point and always confirm with your department.
BCA project at SRTMUN: what the syllabus says
The third-year BCA syllabus on the SRTMUN site (CBCS pattern, introduced from 2021-22) places the project in Semester VI as course BCA-603: Project Development Activity and Seminar.
| Item | BCA-603 (TY BCA, Sem VI) |
|---|---|
| Credits | 4 |
| Marks | 75 |
| Lectures | 50 |
| Group size | 1 student or a group of up to 3 |
| Examiners | 1 external examiner from the University + 1 internal examiner from the college |
| Also includes | A separate seminar with report and presentation |
The official guidelines say:
- You may use any language or package, for example C, C++, VC++, Oracle, VB.NET, PHP or Java.
- The project should be developed in the lab and checked by your guide from time to time.
- Get your synopsis approved by the guide well in advance.
- Submit one copy of the project report to the college.
The syllabus also lists what the report must cover: cover page, certificate, declaration, acknowledgement, index, introduction of the project, data flow diagram, source code, result/output, limitations, conclusion and bibliography.
Do not forget the seminar
BCA-603 is a project and a seminar. Each student picks a separate seminar topic, prepares a seminar report, presents it using PPT or another presentation tool, and submits one hard copy of the seminar report to the college. Many students leave this to the last week. Pick your seminar topic early, ideally something linked to your project technology, so the reading helps both.
A note for NEP batches
SRTMUN started the NEP-2020 BCA (single major) structure with first-year students in 2024-25. The second-year NEP syllabus we checked marked the Semester V and VI structure as "yet to be defined". If you are in an NEP batch, the project course code, credits and marks may be different from BCA-603, so ask your department for the final third-year syllabus before you plan.
How the BCA subjects help your project
The TY BCA syllabus gives you exactly the skills a final year software project needs:
- Semester V: System Analysis and Design, Web Development and PHP Programming, and Mobile Application Development, with PHP and mobile app labs.
- Semester VI: Software Engineering and Python, alongside the project.
So a PHP + MySQL web project or an Android app is a natural choice. You will be studying these technologies anyway, which makes it easier to explain your code in the viva.
MCA project at SRTMUN: what we could confirm
SRTMUN runs a two-year MCA. Its second-year Semester III structure (from 2021-22) includes:
- Core: Visual Programming Tools, Mobile Application Development, Python Programming
- Elective 1: OOAD, Management Information System, Software Project Management or Linux Administration
- Elective 2: Digital Image Processing, Cloud Computing, Data Sciences or IoT
- Labs for the core subjects and an open elective
We could not find the official Semester IV document for the two-year MCA online, so we will not guess its project credits or marks. Ask your department for the current Semester IV structure, the number of project reviews and the report format. What is clear from Semester III is that MCA students get Android, Python and data science skills just before the project semester, so an Android app with an ML or AI feature is a strong and realistic choice.
A simple plan for the project year
Your college fixes the dates, so adjust this to your calendar:
| When | What to finish |
|---|---|
| First 2 weeks | Form the group (up to 3 for BCA), shortlist 3 topics, meet the guide |
| Weeks 3–4 | Write and get the synopsis approved |
| Weeks 5–8 | Requirements, data flow diagrams, database design |
| Weeks 9–14 | Build the project in the lab, show progress to the guide regularly |
| Weeks 15–16 | Testing, screenshots, limitations and conclusion |
| Final weeks | Report, seminar slides, practice the viva |
Two habits save a lot of trouble. First, keep your data flow diagrams and database tables updated as the project changes; examiners often compare the DFD with the running software. Second, write the limitations section honestly. Saying "works only on Android 8 and above" or "uses sample data" is better than claiming features you cannot show.
Choosing a topic that fits Marathwada
Topics with a local connection are easy to explain and easy to defend in the viva. Farming, healthcare, blood donation and college administration are problems examiners in Nanded, Latur and Parbhani understand immediately.
For BCA (PHP + MySQL web projects):
- Agriculture market price portal: mandi rates, price trend charts and price alerts
- Campus grievance redressal system: anonymous complaints with a committee workflow
- Blood donor directory: donor eligibility by last donation date and hospital requests
- Lab test booking system: home sample slots and a technician panel
For MCA (Android with AI / ML):
- Multilingual farmer advisory assistant: Marathi and Hindi voice with AI advice
- Crop recommendation and yield prediction: on-device Random Forest model
- Heart disease risk prediction app: on-device ML with a risk report
- Women safety SOS app with live tracking: Android app with a PHP MySQL admin panel
You can browse all BCA projects and MCA projects. Every listing has a free abstract, screenshots and a report preview, so you can check the scope before you write your synopsis. If you are still deciding, read how to choose a final year project or these AI project ideas for final year students.
Before you submit: a quick checklist
- Synopsis approved and signed by the guide
- Report has every section the syllabus lists, including DFDs, source code and limitations
- Screenshots match the software you will run in front of the examiner
- Seminar report printed and slides ready (BCA)
- Every group member can explain the database, one module and the main flow
