About the project
Most people trying to lose or gain weight do not know their real calorie need, and generic fitness apps suggest food nobody eats at home. This AI diet and fitness planner Android project solves that for Indian users. The app calculates BMI and daily calories with the Mifflin-St Jeor formula, asks Google Gemini for a six-meal Indian plan built around that number, checks the plan before showing it, and sends it to a real dietitian for approval. It is a complete diet planner app project with tracking, charts and reports, not just a chatbot.
How it works
- The user fills age, gender, height, weight, activity level, goal and veg / non-veg preference; the server saves BMI and the daily calorie target.
- AI Meal Plan: Gemini gets the profile, the calorie target and the calorie values from the app's own food database, and returns six meals in a fixed JSON format.
- Accuracy check: the app verifies the meal count, the calorie total (within 7%) and the diet rule (no egg or chicken for a veg user). A wrong plan is sent back to Gemini once with the problem; a backup Gemini model is used if the main one is busy.
- AI Workout Plan: weekly plan by level, days, home or gym and minutes per session.
- The chosen dietitian approves the plan or asks for changes with a remark, and answers the user's questions.
- Daily steps (phone sensor), water, weight and food are logged; the weekly report shows charts and downloads as PDF.

Who can use this project
Final year and pre-final year students of BE / B.Tech, MCA, BCA and Diploma (Computer Engineering, CSE, IT) who want a Gemini AI Android project with source code and documentation. It is also a good choice if your guide has asked for a health or fitness topic such as a calorie counter and step counter app.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Gemini API key free? Yes. A free key from Google AI Studio is enough for demos, no card needed. Without a key, profile, tracking, food diary, reports and dietitian review still work; only new AI plans need the key.
How are daily calories calculated? BMR from the Mifflin-St Jeor formula is multiplied by the activity factor, then 500 kcal is reduced for weight loss or 400 kcal added for weight gain, with a minimum of 1200 kcal.
Does the step counter work on the emulator? The emulator has no step sensor, so the app offers "Add steps manually" for the demo. On a real phone the sensor counts steps automatically.
Can I add my own foods? Yes. The admin adds food categories and items with calories and macros from the web panel; the food diary and the AI prompt use them directly.
