Billing Software for Shops in Beed: What to Check Before You Buy
A practical checklist for Beed shop owners choosing GST billing software: billing speed, GST invoice, udhari, stock, printer support, training, data backup and the questions to ask before you pay.

Many shops in Beed still run on a bill book, a calculator and an udhari diary. That works until the counter gets busy, a supplier asks for GST details, or the owner wants to know how much stock is really left. At that point most owners start looking for billing software, and then a new problem begins: every seller says their software does everything.
This guide is for kirana, medical, hardware, mobile, garment and wholesale shop owners in Beed, Ambajogai, Parli, Majalgaon, Georai and the other towns of the district. It lists what to check before you pay for billing software, so you buy something your counter staff will actually use.
First, know what your shop needs
Before you call any software company, spend ten minutes writing down how your shop works today. Answer these questions on one page:
- How many bills do you make on a busy day, and how many people bill at the counter?
- Are you GST registered? If yes, regular or composition scheme? (A composition dealer issues a bill of supply, not a tax invoice. Ask your CA if you are not sure.)
- Do your products have barcodes, or do you sell loose items by weight?
- How much of your sale is on credit (udhari)?
- Do you buy from a few fixed suppliers or many?
- Who will use the software: you, your son or daughter, or counter staff who are new to computers?
Beed is a farming district, and in many shops a part of the sale happens on credit that customers clear later. If that is true for your shop, udhari tracking is not a "nice extra" — it is the main reason to buy software.
The checklist: what to test before you buy
Ask for a demo or trial and test each point yourself with your own items. Do not just watch the seller click.
| What to check | How to test it in the demo | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Billing speed | Make a 6–8 item bill with barcode and by typing the item name | A slow screen creates a queue at rush hour |
| GST invoice | Print a bill and show it to your CA | The invoice must carry the details your registration needs |
| Udhari | Make a credit sale, take a part payment, see the balance | Replaces the diary only if it is simple |
| Stock | Enter a purchase, sell items, check the stock count | Tells you what to reorder before it runs out |
| Daily closing | Check the cash, credit and total sale for the day | You should know today's sale in one screen |
| Printer and scanner | Ask which thermal printer and barcode scanner work with it | Hardware that does not connect wastes money |
| Language and training | Ask who will train your staff, in which language | Staff who don't understand it go back to the bill book |
| Data and backup | Ask where your data is stored and how backup is done | Your sales and udhari records are your business |
Billing speed comes first
The most expensive software is useless if a bill takes two minutes. In the demo, ask the seller to hand the keyboard to you. Search an item by name, scan a barcode, change a quantity, give a discount and print. If you cannot do this after five minutes of practice, your counter staff will struggle too.
Get your CA to look at the invoice
GST rules decide what a tax invoice must show, such as your GSTIN, invoice number and date, HSN codes and the tax split. The exact requirements depend on your registration and turnover, so the safest step is simple: print a sample bill during the demo and send a photo to your CA on WhatsApp. Also ask how the software helps at month end, for example with a GST summary your CA can use for returns.
Udhari should be easier than the diary
Test the full credit cycle: a customer buys on credit, pays part of it next week, and buys again. The software should show the customer's running balance without any calculation by you. Also check that you can see a list of all customers with pending balances, sorted by amount.
Stock that updates itself
Good billing software reduces stock with every sale and increases it with every purchase entry. Ask to see a low-stock list. For a medical store, also ask how batch and expiry details are handled, because that is a separate requirement from a kirana shop.
Questions to ask the software company
Features are only half the decision. Before you pay, ask:
- Is there a free trial? A few days of real use tells you more than any brochure.
- Who installs it and enters my items? Entering hundreds of items and opening stock is the hardest part of starting.
- What does the licence cover, and for how long? Ask about renewal and what happens if you do not renew.
- How does support work? Phone, WhatsApp, remote help or a visit? Get it in writing.
- Where is my data? On your shop computer or online? Who can see it? How do you take a backup?
- Can my staff have separate logins? You may not want counter staff to see profit or full reports.
Avoid any seller who will not give a written quotation or cannot explain renewal charges clearly.
Ready billing software or custom software?
For most shops, ready billing software is the right choice: it is faster to start and already handles billing, GST, stock and udhari. Custom software makes sense only when your work is unusual, for example a wholesale business with special rate lists for different customers, multiple godowns, or a process no ready product supports. We compared the two in detail in custom software vs ready software.
Where Ananda POS fits
Our own product, Ananda POS, is billing software made for shops like these: barcode billing, GST invoices on a thermal printer, stock and purchase entry, customer udhari with part payments, and a daily sales report. It is installed on your shop computer, so your data stays on your PC, and it comes with a 7-day free trial. Our team trains staff in Marathi, Hindi or English.
Our office is in Nanded. We work with businesses in Beed by phone, WhatsApp and online meetings, and visit when needed. If your shop needs something a ready product cannot do, our custom software development team can build it around your process. And if you have moved from paper registers in another business, such as finance, you may find our post on moving from a money lending register to software useful.

Frequently asked questions
What should I check first in billing software for my shop?
Check billing speed with your own items. Make a 6–8 item bill using barcode and item name search yourself during the demo. If it feels slow or confusing, your counter staff will avoid using it.
Will billing software make my GST invoices correct automatically?
Good software works out the tax on each item and prints a GST invoice, but the details your invoice must show depend on your registration and turnover. Print a sample bill in the demo and get your CA to check it.
Can billing software track udhari (credit) for customers?
Many products can. Test a credit sale, a part payment and a second purchase, and check that the customer's running balance and a list of all pending balances are shown without manual calculation.
Do you work with shops in Beed even though your office is in Nanded?
Yes. Our office is in Nanded, and we work with Beed businesses by phone, WhatsApp and online meetings, with visits when needed. Ananda POS also has a 7-day free trial.
